Jay's First Season 5 Mock Draft

03/24/2020

It's the best time to be an MLR member. GMs are scrambling for new signees, free agents are looking for their new homes, and draftees are wondering where they will fall. In this specific article, I will address that last point. We will be looking at the first round of the upcoming draft using the currently known draft order, and hypothesize who will go when.

Is it an assortment of random guesses? Yea, probably. But I pride myself in being 3 for 3 in guessing first overall picks, and I want to make sure I keep my perfect streak.

I will provide a writeup for the first 15 picks, but the last 15 will just be a list, as I do not wish to be here all night. Maybe I'll go ham in a future mock, if I end up doing a second or third.

#1 - Milwaukee Brewers

P Alexander Hamilton II

Milwaukee has given a pretty small list of possible picks, and I think they will choose Hamilton II. Hamilton is a pitcher that is the lowest risk when it comes to activity out the entire field of prospects. Hamilton backs up an 11,000+ message Discord history with a spotless 5.1 innings in college baseball, making him a solid choice for first overall pick.

#2 - Toronto Blue Jays

P Alex Curvingsonworth

Alex Curvingsworth has exploded onto the scene as of late as a player of both high Discord activity and pitching skill. In her time with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, she posted a 1.50 ERA in 8 innings pitched. Toronto currently operates a small roster with only three pitchers, so choosing a pitcher would make sense for them.

#3 - Arizona Diamondbacks

3B/SS Cali Guerensk

Guerensk is likely the most active of the newcomer draft prospects, and has shown themselves to be a pretty amicable and cool person. What they lose in their .143 college baseball batting average, they make up with in activity-- this is way more valuable in the grand scheme of this game. Arizona has many 3Bs, but few SSs, which could be Guerensk's place on the team.

#4 - Atlanta Braves

P Jin Yang

The Braves are another team that has hinted their desire for a pitcher, and Jin Yang may be the kind of talent they need. He has consistently shown himself at the top of the stat leaderboard for college baseball pitchers, and apparently has a Discord. It may be an activity risk, but if Yang can deliver in the clubhouse, this will definitely be a steal for the Braves.

#5 - Colorado Rockies

3B/LF Gang Weed

If there is one thing the Rockies love, it's funny names. While there are no butts or dicks involved, I still believe that Gang Weed is up to their standards. Weed has 3 hits in 5 college plate appearances, which is pretty respectable, and has had some recent Discord activity which could prove them a steal. Plus they have Discord Nitro which means they should stick around Discord.

#6 - Houston Colt .45s

SS/2B Joey Semenhands

What Houston could really use is 2B depth. What this draft doesn't have a lot of is viable second basemen. It may be smart for Houston to snatch one up early, and the best pick would be Joey Semenhands. He is a vet and has a Discord history north of 24,000 , so this could be a great pick for Houston.

#7 - Pittsburgh Pirates

 P Cy Hadd Jr.

The Pirates GM Dylan Green once joked about drafting pitcher Cy Hadd Jr., son of the deceased Phillies legend. Once considered a contender for the first overall pick, a decline in activity and a sit-out of college baseball lowered Hadd's stock, but he is still considered first round talent. The Pirates could use a pitcher for their upcoming season, and with all the best options taken in this mock, Hadd Jr. could be a good option.

#8 - Philadelphia Phillies

C/3B Jason Varitek

Jason Varitek seems like he would fit very well into a Phillies lineup with only one catcher. The prospect has over 1000 messages in the Discord already, and has posted a .429 batting average in college baseball over 7 PA. This would be a steal at this point, but with all the teams with bias towards pitchers or plenty of mainstay catchers, this could work for the Phillies, and they should nab him.

#9 - Tampa Bay Devil Rays

LF/1B Doc Crudelly

If there is one thing Tampa Bay could use reinforcements in, it is first base. While they aren't exactly desperate for anyone in the position, it is still one of their biggest sparsities, and Doc's secondary position happens to be first base. Crudelly also has a solid activity in the Discord and has shown himself to be pretty neat, making him a possible asset in this draft.

#10 - Texas Rangers

SS/3B Tommy Tightpants

Tightpants is another surefire first rounder with a whole lot of Discord activity, something Texas has notoriously needed in their existence. This activity, combined with a primary position that the Rangers do not have a lot of, could prove to be a masterstroke pick for the ballclub.

#11 - St. Louis Cardinals

P Tabasco Greensauce

Tabasco Greensauce would be a sure top rounder if he logged college baseball innings. Because he hasn't, he may slip under the radar for a little while, but the pitching starved Cardinals would do amazingly to pick up this guy. What he lacks in stats, he gains in almost 2000 Discord messages and recent activity.

#12 - Montreal Expos

CF/LF Zachary Hommes

The Expos are another second baseman sparse team, but they may have to look towards free agency for that. An interesting pick would be outfielder Zachary Hommes, who would slot in well in their outfield. Hommes has a large Discord activity, but hasn't taken any college baseball at-bats. If the Expos are willing to take that chance, this could be a great pick.

#13 - Los Angeles Angels

P Tristan Leung

No one has pitched more innings in college baseball right now than Tristan Leung, according to the stats leaderboard at least. He also has really good Discord activity. The Angels are looking to heavily retool their roster, and since they only have one pitcher currently, they could start with their rotation.

#14 - Oakland Athletics

1B/3B/C Dart Ragusa

Ragusa is a veteran of this game, which explains his three positions. This would be a huge coverage for Oakland, paired with tried and true activity. He hasn't had a hit in college baseball, but it don't mean shit with a career to back him up. This would be a good choice for the Athletics, though they could also search for a pitcher.

#15 - San Diego Padres

RF/1B Late Train Dave Vein

Vein could be a fantastic pick for the Padres, who are hoping to ride their late momentum and start Season 5 strongly. First base is a shallow position for San Diego, and tops offensive leaderboards in college baseball with 4 hits in 5 ABs. If they could boost his Discord activity, this could be a great grab for mid first round.

Remainder of Round One:

#16 - Detroit Tigers - 3B/LF Hannibal Bligh

#17 - Minnesota Twins - SS/2B Trevor Rose

#18 - Chicago White Sox - 1B/3B Drax Frost

#19 - Miami Marlins - P Jacky Wacky

#20 - Cincinnati Reds - C/1B Pork Torkleton

#21 - Boston Red Sox - 2B/RF Dermot Mulveiny

#22 - Cleveland Indians - LF/RF Kirby Birch

#23 - Seattle Mariners - CF/RF Guido Ligiorno

#24 - Baltimore Orioles - RF/CF Nate Savage

#25 - Chicago Cubs - 1B/3B Jimmy Haase

#26 - San Francisco Giants - P Brian Taylor

#27 - New York Mets - P Hunter Scott

#28 - New York Yankees - 1B Joe Whomper

#29 - Los Angeles Dodgers - P Dillon Cheer

#30 - Kansas City Royals - P Che Or
